Benches in a Stack

If the bookshelves you find in the stores are too tall, or too wide, and just not the right thing in general, this is a great idea for your next project.

Consider stacking wooden benches together for just the right space. This is made with 3 benches, two would work just as well, but they suggest not using more than 4.

Paint the benches with a latex semigloss paint to suit your decor.

To assemble, stack 2 benches. On the front of each leg of the top bench, drill a 45 degree hole (centered 1 inch up from the bottom of the leg) through the leg and partway through the top of the bench below. Using a long wood screw to attach the pieces. Screw size will vary depending on the thickness of you bench legs.

Repeat on back legs. Stack another bench on top and repeat to attach. Fill and finish the holes.

Now is this not a clever idea ?
